//The layers in photoshop can be defined as transparent sheets of artwork staked one top of the other.When you open an image in photoshop ,it automatically gets placed in a layer or layers depending on how it has been saved. You can see through the layer if it is transparent or if no image is present on it . you can apply refined effects to the layers by using masks, layer clipping paths & layer styles.
